About Longyearbyen Camping
GEOWorld's northernmost campsite! There's often much talk about sleeping peacefully under the starry night sky, but have you ever wondered what it's like to snooze under the midnight sun instead? Well, as this is the world's northernmost campsite (in the world's northernmost town), between early spring and autumn the sun never sets... If you need a top-up of vitamin D, make your way to Longyearbyen Camping. The friendly site team will happily help you sort out excursions and find great hiking trails from the campsite; it's worth noting that all visitors to Svalbard are required by law to carry a rifle when leaving any settlement to venture into the wilderness, as polar bears inhabit the island's icy lands. Local tour operators in Longyearbyen organise all sorts of adventurous excursions, from boat trips and dog sledding adventures to snowmobiling and quad bike tours; visitors can also borrow bikes free of charge at the tourist information office. With views over a bird-filled fjord towards mountains in the middle distance, this spectacular campsite attracts guests seeking a peaceful and highly scenic stay in Arctic nature. The site is regularly visited by wildlife such as curious reindeer, leucistic barnacle geese and numerous other migratory birds. In summer, temperatures here average between two and 15 degrees Celsius, so be sure to pack thermal clothing and long underwear - but fear not, you won't need a camping stove: your stay will be cosy and comfortable, with a service complex offering guest amenities including heated bathrooms and a fully equipped communal kitchen.
Facilities include facilities for children, space for dogs and wheelchair-accessible facilities.
